This One Thing You Must Do…
We all have that one thing God has placed on our hearts to do. Only issue, it may not be the thing those around you want you to do. In the bible, Nehemiah was set on rebuilding the wall around his city. A wall meant protection for Jerusalem. It meant people could no longer pillage and intimidate at their leisure any more.
Ever notice when you’re trying to do right, what feels like all of hell comes against you? The opposition makes what you feel is the right thing may be the total wrong thing! I remember when I first came to Christ and I began to be involved in ministry. I quickly moved from Sunday volunteer to a leader. It’s nothing I ever sat and dreamed of, but it was what God called me to do.
Believe it or not, there was opposition to that. My family didn’t understand what I was doing. There were plenty of comments made that suggested I was doing the most and just being obsessive. Since those words came from those closest to me, I felt horrible. I began to second guess if I was really following God or just being a busy body. Once that seeped in my mind, I began to doubt my calling all together. Was I really meant for this? Can I even do this? Should I even be allowed to? Don’t they know who I really am?!
All those negative thoughts began to weigh me down. Then one day I had enough. I searched my own heart and not the words of others. I began proudly walking in what God was calling me to. Now I am one of the leaders in the young adults ministry at my church. I feel satisfied and fulfilled walking in my heart’s passion.
So what is your one thing? Going back to school? Switching jobs? Quitting a job? Stopping a bad habit? Ending a relationship? What is the one thing, that God won’t let you stop thinking about?
“I sent messengers to them with this reply: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?” – Nehemiah 6:3
